What is IVF?
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is one of the most well-known and effective assisted reproductive technologies (ART) used to help couples struggling with infertility. IVF Process – Step by Step
The IVF procedure is carried out in several stages:
Ovarian Stimulation – The woman receives fertility medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs in one cycle.
Egg Retrieval – A minor surgical procedure is performed to collect the mature eggs from the ovaries.
Sperm Collection and Preparation – A sperm sample is collected from the male partner or a donor and prepared in the lab to select the healthiest sperm.
Fertilization – Eggs and sperm are combined in the lab for fertilization. In some cases, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) may be used to improve fertilization chances.
Embryo Development – The fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured and monitored for several days to ensure healthy growth.
Embryo Transfer – The best quality embryo(s) are transferred into the woman’s uterus. The remaining viable embryos can be frozen for future use.
Pregnancy Test – A blood test is performed approximately two weeks after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy.
